What is Salsa?
Latin rhythms, live atmosphere, and lots of smiles – that’s what you’ll see on a typical Salsa night dance party in Bellevue! Salsa was brought to the US from Cuba by US soldiers in 1960’s and 1970’s. Salsa music and dance then evolved in New York City and hit the rest of the country with enormous success. Nowadays, salsa is one of the most popular social partner dances in the world, attracting everyone with its energetic Latin music, as well as it’s fun and sexy dance moves!
What are the benefits of salsa and bachata dancing?
The benefits of salsa dancing are numerous, but to name a few:

  • Meet new people
  • Get in shape
  • Spark or renew a romance
  • Dance at Salsa clubs, cruises, weddings, on holidays and private parties
I’m a beginner. Where do I start?
If you are a beginner, we recommend you to start with our regular Beginner/Intermediate Salsa or Bachata classes. This is a great start to learning the moves that you’ll find people dancing at a typical salsa night club. The classes are structured to give you maximum learning results in group setting through repetition and practice of steps and lead/follow technique to help your muscle memory execute basic moves and variations with minimal thinking . The goal of the class is to bring a confident dancer from a group class setting on to the social dance floor within three months. For additional learning experience the private lessons are available.
I have no partner. Do I need one to join the class?
No, you don’t need a partner. We often rotate students (optional for couples). We also invite our volunteers, who come to help by dancing with students without a partner. Having an ongoing dance partner is not guaranteed, but we do our best to make sure everyone has plenty of chances to dance and learn.
I’ve done salsa before. What class level should I join at LaVida studio?
If you are not sure what level to take, jump on to our Beginner/Intermediate level class. This will help you to identify your level. Various schools cover various materials, so you can’t go wrong by choosing Level 1. Surely, you won’t be bored during the class!
What are Group Classes for Salsa at LaVida?
  • Our 55-minute Group Classes give you a chance to learn various Latin dances in a friendly environment where you will have plenty of time to practice your steps before hitting the dance floor.
  • The classes are ongoing. They are held at the same time each week, with the same instructor. You may join the class any time either by drop-in or Monthly Membership.
Should I take Private Lessons?
Students can learn from group classes, but private lessons are invaluable when it comes to learning correctly from the start, avoiding mistakes, and preventing bad habits that may form and would be very hard to correct later on. We recommend taking Private lessons along with group classes at least once per month.

Private lessons are also a great choice for those who can't commit to the schedule of group classes due to travel, work or life-style.

We offer 50 min dance lessons for all levels of dancers. Whether you are single, or learning to dance as a couple, you will receive personal attention to your individual needs; consequently making more rapid progress. Lessons will advance at your own pace and comfort level. You will soon be able to move confidently, feel comfortable dancing, and truly enjoy it. The more time you can invest in your dancing, the better dancer you will become!

Can I come to your Salsa Dance Parties?
Absolutely. Come and bring your friends to our monthly Salsa Dance Party - 3rd Friday of each month! Various types of Latin music is played during the night so that you can practice all the dances that you've been learning with us. Spend a wonderful evening socializing and dancing on the Eastside Seattle without crossing the bridge. See our Dance Socials Schedule on the right column for up to date schedule.

This class covers the fundamentals. Students get introduced to timing, rhythm, body movement, lead-follow connection, basic step patterns and partner combinations.

No partner required. No experience necessary.

This class is a great start to learning Salsa moves that you’ll find people dancing at a typical salsa night club.

The class is ongoing and held at the same time each week, with the same instructor. It is structured to give you maximum learning results in a group setting through repetition and practice of steps and lead/follow technique to help your muscle memory execute basic moves and variations with minimal thinking.

You may join the class any time.

The goal of this class is to bring a confident dancer from a group class setting out on to the social dance floor within few months. An additional learning opportunity is available during private lessons.

Price per person:

$95/month a Monthly VIP Membership with an autopay

$25 a drop-in class

Monthly VIP Membership is for those who are serious about learning now. It includes:

- In-Person group classes

- Online Streaming option to take classes (if you can not be present in-person)

- Class recordings to practice at home emailed after each class

- 1 dance social party (3rd Friday of each month 8:30pm-11:30pm)

*Any missed class is not credited back and considered to be used.

EASTSIDE SALSA MARINA AUGUST 10TH, 2024

The 10th Annual Outdoor Public Salsa Dance Social at the Kirkland Marina Park is coming up AUGUST 10th, 2024!

What's better on a summer night than dancing all evening long at the waterfront?!
Join us for the 8th Annual Outdoor Salsa Party at the Kirkland Marina park under the roof of main gazebo! Invite friends!
5:15pm - Introduction to Salsa class $10
6pm-10pm - Outdoor Salsa Dancing $15

We encourage you to bring your own partner, however, it is not required.

Dancers with a vaccination proof will receive one colored wristband and those without the proof - another, that way dancers have a choice who they'd like to dance with!
